So true! Claudia has this, like, tree fetish. Watchout! I know for a fact..she told me in strictest confidence..that she's planning to install more trees as a "privacy barrier" between her old house and her new house. You know, you really should see the view from my house. My house positively towers over all the trees, and looks down at the pond. Yes, the same pond. Just look up from Claudia's, and you'll see my house.
I would rather sit on C's porch. I have yet to be invited to this other womens porch. Perhaps because I am not a paying tenent is why I was never invited to sit on her porch. Trees are needed on the island.. even if they are gnarled and barely alive. Privacy makes for good neighbors..unless of course they are related to you. In that case tree's for privacy cause more troubles with kin.
Dear Oceangurl: The reason you were never invited to sit on my porch was I only just met you! I think by the time I first met you in June, my house (the one with the spectacular views) was already rented. To lucky tenants. Who like the elevations. The tsunamis won't get my tenants!! Come see me in September.
Dear Dan: I think you are right. Green and black. We couldn't get green rolled roofing for the lower roof. Is it a Queen Anne? I have a Queen Anne in Madsion, Georgia. But it has a lot more gingerbread. You'd think I'd know these things, as I, too, have been on Historic Preservation Commission. But not as a chair. So there you have it!
Dear Dan: Thank you for your kind words. All joking aside, (for the moment)..it's a great old Island house, altered very little on outside or inside. Very few places like it left on the island. Too much Martha Stewart, too many McCottages. Not my house!! Come up and see me sometime. Wait 'till Claudia sees THESE comments!! She's at the funeral at the moment. When she comes back, she gwine ter have a fit.
Dear Oceangurl: Yes, you can smoke on the porch. I hope to see you in the fall. If you come back, that is. And Dan, the house was built in the mid-1880's (I can't remember, but it is documented) by a Dr. C.H. Hadley. He went on the build the grand Hygeia Hotel (pics in Downeys book and elsewhere). The access to the tower is separate from the attic access. And it has a full, if somewhat damp, basement. I know even if I am not there, Edie Blane would probably agree to show you the house. I think I have heard it referred to as carpenter gothic. Best wishes! TGHVO. PS Otis's Mom will be commenting tommorrow. Watch for it. Are you taking this all in, Claude?
It's my first time being a pallbearer. I was mostly crying and then drinking. But not smoking. It's 2:30 ayem and my last guest just left. Actually, that's not quite true. There's one on the couch still. My Ed was here. He did not ask after you, Angelina.
Yes. Our Ed. Thank you, Citichild. I'd like Claudia to remember just who she's dealing with here. I got Brad, didn't I? Enjoy Ed while you can, Claudine.

I believe that would be OUR Ed.
