disquiet on campus

You have to ask yourself how sports became so important to Americans that university endowments are based on football teams.

Claudia, did you know this story?

When HGD was a tenured professor at U of Arkansas the faculty proposed that instead of having sports teams the university sponsor a stable of racehorses. Faculty rationale was: "At least we won't have to have them in our classes."

The motion was dismissed, but it still makes a good story. We are, and always have been, a sports mad culture. Wste of time to me, but I'm in the minority.

I'm in the same minority...I didn't even know what sports were (I never participated) until I started dating a hockey fan in my late teens...go figure
