the city

In the winter, you are lucky to live in the city. You do not have to have a car or know how to drive or meet people at the airport or shovel your driveway or drive drunk. It is true that people from out of town will pity you on account of your small kitchen, but you don't have to cook. You can order in food in many different languages and watch the Olympics on TV. Or you can go out to readings at Barnes and Noble. You can shop 24-7 and sled with the kids in the park if it snows. You do not have to pay for heat. You are free because nobody knows your name unless you are famous. And even if you are famous nobody will bother you when you shop at Zabar's for some St. Andre on sale. They might flick you a glance and look away. You are never weird because no matter how weird you are, somebody in the city is weirder.

No. Nor hot water.
The gas does cost $25 a month.

OK OK so you live in Paradise and we live in reality....where the heat costs a small fortune unless we go out and cut down trees...and no matter where you go someone wants to say hello because they know you...and maybe you can be the weirdest person around...I want to paint that beautiful picture you took of the skyline and clouds...OK?

Hey, I didn't have to pay for heat for two days last week since that's how long my house was without it (and electricity) due to storm complications. Uhh...guess it's not the same as your situation, huh, CD? Good to be warm again, even if it comes with a bill at end of month.

HOW is that possible???????? Poor landlord --- no wonder rent is so expensive!

We're with Neruda - living in reality!

Poor DR--no electricity!
Forgot, I don't pay for electricity either. But as you point out, Dianne, we pay in other ways. . .

Our electric bill for last month was over $500---& that's with a geothermal unit! Your rent isn't looking as bad as I thought! (Of course, YOURS isn't for sure!!!)
