no lock on it

"Is it a 2 3/8ths backset or 2 3/4?" Hmm. what's a backset? They are very nice, and gay, down at the fairly new Home Depot at Fifth and 23rd Street. And the help seems to actually know things about the product, which is good. Unfortunately I learned too much about the product I wished to buy—another freaking Schlage lever to put on those damn French doors. I have less than an hour to switch it out between renters, so I need one with the same dimensions. I prowled on the web and thought I had ascertained that the heavy duty needed the same size holes as the light duty. I didn't know about the backset. Basically, it is the length of the latch, measured from the edge of the door to the center of the lockset see diagram. So there.
While at Home Depot, I also saw a human—the first one in a long time, and keep in mind I live in New York—who I was unable to figure out the sex of. Wearing booty shorts and a T-shirt. Apparently that Home Depot already has a reputation as a great pickup joint.

Being widely read, with diverse cultural references at my fingertips, I instantly recognized Citichild's source: Two women are joined at a roadside bar by a third, who, just being friendly, says "Where ya'll from." Answer: "Well, I'll tell you one thing. Where we're from people don't end sentences with a preposition."
"OH! Oh I'm so sorry, You are exactly right. I should have said 'Where ya'll from, BITCH!'"
This is my all time favorite joke. Probably because it't the ONLY joke I have ever heard that I could later remember all the way through to the punch line. So I tell it often.

Well thank you for explaining that--I didn't get it.
As for Karl Rove, Dangerman says there's some slight chance he may get nailed by the prosecutor on obstruction of justice or perjury, depending on what he told the grand jury, but more likely not. Dangerman further says we should count our blessings that Rove is busy covering his ass and not going around making trouble. He says we have already seen the effects of that with the failure of the social security effort and may see it with the Supreme Court nominations. Dangerman further says that you should be sure and read the framing article (I did) in last week's NYT mag. I assume you did.
