lady who lunched—and lunched

The cafe across the street from the Goose mainly caters to the local cowboys who work on the rich folks' ranch in town. But Virginia took me and her daughter Mona out to lunch there as a treat. Mona introduced me to some local color—Frank, the ag teacher at the school where she works. Virginia knew everybody else in the place. She and I had chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and lots of gravy.
Lunch at the Viandel Vineyard was different. Started with a charcuterie board. Then wood-fired fancy pizza with the literary lions (the only ones in town—they met at the Iowa Writers' Workshop), the former judge and the former journalist. The latter would be me.
 

David, as always, treated me to oysters one day. These, from Martha's Vineyard, were maybe the best I've ever had. 
Frank and Dianne treated me to lunch at my fave Mexican place, and at their house for Thai food. Also for my fave: SNAX!

 

 

And there were entertainments at the Goose as well. I made corned beef and cabbage a few days after St Patrick's Day. And there were assorted other (very assorted) meals. Denise came over and brought me a beautiful squash from last year's harvest.

 
So if you wonder why I haven't been posting much, this is why. And it continues til the end of the week, when I am planning to head East.
