When people who used to live in New York a few decades ago spend any time here these days, they are pretty shocked by the changes. No muggings, car thefts, filthy streets, graffiti. Time Square has become Disneyland, the Upper White Side is Yuppie Mummy Central, Broadway is Franchise Boulevard (but for the lingering side-street storefront, above) and the outer reaches of Brooklyn and Queens have become Cool Town. Parking meters have given way to electronic ticket machines, sidewalk cafes have multiplied, and prices of everything have skyrocketed. People still wear black, though.

I remain a faithful reader, if not a faithful commenter. The college tour subject brings memories from the 90s. My own offspring tour child, now a Queens dweller. .. I enjoy the blog, ear candles(intriguing) and all.

Absolutely! I've read that what people think is ear wax is actually parts of the candle that fall back down into the ear as the candle burns???
Just burn one (I use the beeswax ones) if you are in doubt!
I think I've candled enough ears to last a lifetime. So, nix the candles for me.
The urge to candle ears may be vaguely connected to the Spring Equinox. I seem to remember doing that last April.
Or perhaps the rising tide of ear wax responds to the pull of the planets?
