crop circle

I promised my guests an organic vegetable garden this year—me and Michelle Obama, but I said it first. And I bet she didn't do the digging herself.
The circle is broken, but it looks like I bit off more than I can chew. When I think of what a drag it was waiting for the grass to grow a year or so ago, the fact that I'm now digging it up makes me hurt. That and the digging itself, which I'll finish doomsday, belike, after all the plants have croaked. On the bright side, it will make for a lot more unevenly sodded lawn—right Hannah?
Note how the wheelbarrow shadow looks like a cave painting of a deer. Or possibly, the Virgin Mary.

  1. In the spirt of unbroken circles (by and by Lord, by and by,)this is the first sentence of the history of Thomasville, Mo., where the Goose squats:

Thomasville is the oldest white man settlement in all of south central Missouri.

What does it mean? Upper White Side to where? Or is it just a place that needs n editor desperately

  2. And West Plains was named because it consisted of the plains West of Thomasville! When my great grandfather arrived, he said the grass came up to his boots while mounted on his horse.

  6. I was just about to ask you about your herb garden project in an e-mail. Then I visited your blog and now I have my answer with photo and story. That shadow does look like a cave painting of a deer and unless you are thinking of another Virgin Mary, I don't see that. What kind of herbs are you consuming there?

  7. OR (we have gone blonder?): Beans, soybeans, tomatoes, peppers, summer sqash, lettuce, lobelia, black eyed susans, sunflowers, etc.
Kathleen: basil, rosemary, cilantro.—better eaten than smoked.
    Dianne: CBA is busy moving!

  8. I could help you map out an edible plant foraging guide for your guests to use. Other Mother.

  9. Yes, I have been be-blonded, courtesy of Theo at the Robert Stuart salon on Amsterdam and 85th. (I needed to restore my blondiosity. I wasn't living up to my name.)

Your garden sounds delicious. All the boys (and girls) will have to pee on it to keep the deer away.

The sunflowers are going be great. Maybe I'll plant something in Kay's little yard. I couldn't do my window boxes this year, since I won't be around to water them.
