and then the winds came
Claudia's Surf City will be closed for the season, as soon as the Gas Guy gets over there to remove the hot water heater for its long winter's nap. BI Bro shut off the electricity and the septic system and the stove.
At the moment, Hannah's is still open, pending the arrival of the Mason, whose arrival has been pending for about a year now. He says he really is gonna be there next week. But there may be no water for him if temperatures are scheduled to plummet (see Island Weather link).
Desperado told me that her father now says little. "Herpes zoster!" he will shout at the top of his lungs. And then later, "Chivas Regal!" And nothing else. He used to be a doctor.
When my brain gets fried, I will be shouting out, "Beck's!" or"The Mason!"
McNerney came by Lynn's and filled the propane tank there unbidden; it was down to a quarter full. That was yesterday, Sunday. So he is making the rounds. As for water, fear not, there is still some in the pond. Think of what fine creatures that will plop into your cement mix. Cheers.
ReplyDeletespeaking of herpes, read this from a piece by Carol Wallace on what it's like to live in Scotland:
ReplyDelete... Understanding the accent hasn't been a picnic, either. Once, a competitive game of Scattergories got ugly when my friend from Glasgow had to think of illnesses beginning with the letter H. The conversation went something like this:
Friend: "Hairpiece."
Me: "What do you mean?!"
Friend (firmly): "Hairpiece!"
Me (voice rising): "Having a hairpiece isn't a disease! What are you trying to pull?"
Friend (exasperated): "I'm not trying to pull anything. You must have hairpiece in America."
Me: "Spell it."
Friend (shouting): "H-E-R-P-E-S!"
